Generation Steel is advancing the next generation of steel manufacturing in Australia.

Our foundation project, the Collie Steel Mill in Western Australia, is set to become the first new steel mill developed in Australia in more than 30 years. The project represents a significant investment in domestic manufacturing capability and regional industrial development, helping create new opportunities in communities that have long powered the nation and possess the skills, infrastructure, and grid capacity required for modern heavy industry.

The mill will utilise Danieli electric arc furnace (EAF) technology to recycle scrap steel into a range of long and flat steel products, including reinforcing bar, wire rod, coil, and merchant bar products. The inclusion of a dedicated merchant bar line will also enable production of angles, channels, flats, square bar, and round bar for the Australian construction and manufacturing sectors.

By combining modern energy-efficient steelmaking technology with a 100% renewable electricity procurement strategy, Generation Steel aims to position the Collie project among the lowest-emissions steel production facilities in the region while remaining focused on commercial competitiveness and long-term industry growth.

With the recent announcement of an additional $9.8 million in funding support from the Government, the project is continuing to progress toward Final Investment Decision (FID).

We welcome opportunities to collaborate with industry partners, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders as we work to strengthen Australia’s steel manufacturing future.
